This room was once the active centre of the house. It was where all the inhabitants of the house met: the owners, the children and the servants. Water and fire were also kept here.
The floor is still partly covered with rectangular sandstone tiles. There is also a sandstone sink under the only window in the room. The water was drained directly outside.
Against the inner wall is the hearth, topped by the wattle and daub mantel. Fire was confined to the kitchen. The stove that heated the living room was fed from the kitchen.
The masonry oven is a replica of two that existed in the Val de Villé. It had complementary functions: heating and cooking food, as well as baking bread in the oven on the right.
Next to the kitchen, through the window, you can see a small, low room that served as a pantry.
